I am just starting in the sport, and I'm looking at a 2004 msx sport 500 liquid cooled the dealer wants 4000 fo it, it has 6000 miles on it but I'm close to Canada being from buffalo so the miles don't concern me to munch, but I want to know if the 500 is enough power the dealer told me that in that model it is more like a 600 because of how they classed them in that year, if anyone has info I sure could use it on this sled.
The gsx's are very nice sleds. I would suggest looking for a 600cc with lower miles in your own country. As IRS said it is a pain buying from canada and bringing it cross border and vice versa. 6000 miles is a lot especially for two seasons. Unless you completely trust the dealer he will most likely lie out of his arse to get that sled off his hands.
As a side note. Ski-doo made a 500SS motor which is actually 600cc. To know the exact displacement check the engine tag under the hood. It will tell you displacement, plug gap, idle speed, etc.
If it is a GSX 500 SS than it is in fact a 600. (SS meaning small six) This sled should have around 110 HP according to SnowTech Magazine. But if your 'msx' is in fact an mxz, a 500 liquid cooled engine from that year goes very well. My buddy had an 03 legend 500 and it ripped. Sounded good too! But 6k miles is allot, and at that mileage you usually get ripped of by the dealers. Make sure you knock 'em a few hundred bucks!
