Question Replacing Track - what else should be done?

I recently was given a 1986 Safari 377 sled that needs a top end rebuild, which I am planning to do. It also needs a new track, which I am searching for. It is my first sled.

When I replace the track, what else should I be looking at replacing, bearings???

what else should I be concerned about?

The hood has some cracks, what is the best method to repair - West System fiberglass?

thanks

Matt

I would definitely replace the driveline bearings while you have the track out. If there are wheels in the suspension, inspect those as well. You may want to look at the steering linkage for worn parts, skis and carbides for wear, brake pads and caliper for proper operation, clean and inspect both clutches for worn parts... I'm not sure if that sled has a jackshaft, if it does, I would replace those bearings as well. It's a lot of work and some bucks, but when you are done, you have a sled that will be very dependable.

hifax is the material that covers the suspension rails on the bottom. The track clips glide across it. It is also called sliders. It is a wear item, usually at the front; some sleds are more prone to wear of hyfax than others. If you wear it too thin, you end up having to replace the rails. Hyfax is about 15-40 bucks, depending on type; rails are a LOT more expensive.

Good advice to replace before it needs it...
