so im looking for a new sled, i currently have a 08 polairs iq 700, absolutely love the machine, i just want to do more powder riding and breaking trails. i seen a 2011 back country 600 for sale with just over 6000 miles, the guy said the previous owner had said it was rebuilt at 5000 miles but hes not sure, it has 130 psi compression in one and 134 in the other cylender. my question is this, how powerful is the 600 ? is it gonna feel alot slower then my 700 ? will the 137 be good enough for deep 2-3 foot deep powder ? and whats the life expectancy of the 600 e-tecs ? not sure for the year but i always hear bad stuff about them blowing around 5-6000 miles, any help is appreciated just wondering if i should get it or wait until i can find a decent polaris 144 for sale
sorry 2011... and i did, you actually answered alot of questions for me, just dont want to put all that money into my iq and have something break, after all its just over 16,000 miles on it now and even after the extension it is after just a trail sled with an extension that wasnt made to have a track that long.... still kinda iffy on the whole 1 foot extension
Ah, different sled, different story. I'll change the text in your original message...
I've ridden with a few guys on later model ski doo 600's with the 144" track. That 16"x144" track goes everywhere my 155" will go. I may have a bit more HP but those guys make me work hard to keep up!
I have a 2015 600 Etec BackCounty and it turns the 137" track just fine and I've only been stuck on ice (no studs).
I've been in the steep and deep and it has gotten me everywhere I wanted to go. I ride with a couple that rides an M8 and a F8 and do pretty good at keeping up.
The guy that rides the M8 is a lot more gutsy than I am, so I can't say I've followed him everywhere, but I try. It is all me holding me back, not the machine.
That M8 is running on fumes while I still have 1/2 tank too.
The 600 Etec seems to be very reliable. Not sure why he had to rebuild, unless it was just a precaution. I know people that have 10,000 miles on their ETECs and still starts as easy as it did brand new. I've heard of a few people with 20k miles and still going strong.
As far as power goes between the IQ 700 and the Etec 600. Sure, the 700 will have a bit more pull. The one thing that a lot of people complain about is the throttle lag. That is, you pull the throttle and the Etec takes just a fraction of a second longer to get going. That IQ 700 is around 125 HP?? The Etec 600 is around 120 HP.
