I am looking at buying a 1996 Grand Touring 500. Can anyone tell me if they have any thoughts on this sled they can share with me.
It is in perfect shape. Well taken care of by someone I know. New plastic skis, battery, etc. Serviced every year.

should be a good sled. there are people on here with touring sleds. what will it be used for mostly?

It will used trail riding in Vermont..

Yes. It seems fine. I ride a 95 STX 583 and really like that alot.

I just picked up a couple of '97 grand touring 500's. I got a great deal on them that's why I have them. so far they seem very simular to the summit 500 of the same year with the exception that there is alot more crap on them.

I don't think you can go wrong with this model but it depends on your intended use. I'm mostly looking to go skiing with these machines and I'm not expecting them to be rockets. So far I've been impressed but I've only had them for a couple of weeks and the conditions here in B.C. have been mostly compact snow.
