Oil tank repair done,,,, Anything else?

Howdy,
So my 2000 800RMK was leaking oil out of the rubber grommet at the bottom of the tank, and the dealer had it in stock, so I took everything off, replaced the grommet, and just removed the line off the oil line filter. After getting it back together, slowly poured new Polaris Gold back up to the brim, so I can see if it leaks over night, and it looks good.

It did start right up, looked like it was burning oil, but did not run it very long.

So, do I need to prime the oil pump or should gravity take over? I assume I can just watch the oil level on the next ride. Or should I put oil in the gas just to be sure?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bob

Any time I mess with the oil pump, I premix the next tank. It's cheap insurance if the pump gets an air pocket and loses prime.

Thanks BC Dan,

I did not mess with the pump, just removed the oil bottle. The inline filter line was disconnected.

Sounds like the way to be safe, is to mix oil in with the fuel.

A few newbie questions,

1. What is the mix ratio?
2. Can I use Polaris gold or blue to mix with?

I assume the oil bottle going down will mean that all is well.......

Thanks for the advice.

I would mix 50:1 with either oil. They are compatible. Your engine doesn't have VES valves, so there isn't a real need for the full synthetic Polaris gold. Personally, I would use Blue.
