Newb buying question:

Shopping for a sled in the 1000.00 mark. Found a 2001 RMK 500 w/2300 miles that needs a windshield, otherwise looks good (haven't gone and looked at any yet, waiting for hubby to get home from ND and give the ok). Another, a little over the mark but dooable is a 97 Sport Touring 440 2-up. Really like the looks of this machine and that it's a 2-up. But I wonder about it being a 440. I am almost 200lbs. My daughter is another 100. I don't care to race, but hey, the one at the back of the pack gets taken down by predators! I know nothing. I rode a newer 550 and it is sweet. But machines in that age group are not in my budget at this point.

Am I right, in that the 440 is air cooled while the 500 is liquid? Anyway, input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Michelle

Seen both ads, I'm a real CL watcher lol. That guy's 440 looks dang nice. The other one, I'd pass.

I'd do the 500 RMK. Haven't seen the posting (which Idaho one is it in) but that's what I'd prefer if it were me. Windshield will run anywhere from $75 to $95. If you can, take a knowledgeable person with you and check both of them. Be sure to check compression and start them cold.

I live in Ririe. Both ads are in the east idaho CL. The 500 RMK is listed for 800. The 440 1250 and was listed in December. Here is my newb impression. The 440 has been well cared for. Windshield aside, I dont really get that impression about the other one. Chances are good that they will be sold by the time I get to look/buy. Then will start over. Is there a better time of year to look for sleds in this price range here in Idaho? BFF created a monster in me I fear.

I'd say if you can swing $1250, check around Boise and Twin CL you might find ya something, keep in mind A LOT of CL people set thier prices expecting to be haggled down some. Jump up to the 1500-1800 range, ya never know they may take it. $1250 right now, is alot more promising than waiting around and a chance of it taking up garage space for another year.

In the Twin CL is an 04 RMK 550 with reverse 1000 OBO. Waiting for pics. A couple of decent looking Arctic Cats in that price range. Would appreciate input if you have time.
