Engine torn apart should I dig deeper?
Hey people! I have the top end torn apart on my 08 Dragon, and I am turning to you're expert advise once again .
I found that the mag side piston/cylinder has a score mark running almost centered through the intake port on that side. There are a few minor wear marks on the PTO side as well but not major. I was in at the dealer yesterday chatting with one of the guys, and he told me to check the crank seals before putting it back together (this same guy told me my oil pump probably wasn't lean without looking at it though so I am taking his words with a grain of salt :/ ) I don't think it is a seal prob. though because the top of the piston has NO burning what so ever, and the plugs are a nice brown indicating that it didn't seem excessively lean (esp. since they look the same on both sides. I see where there has been blow by looking at the thin black carbon build up on both pistons below the rings. I also found the oil pump is set a little too lean, and I was ingesting snow earlier in the season, which I am attributing the scoring to. I would love to here some opinions from more experienced people though. Is there something else I should check before rebuilding? Should I pull the recoil and everything out to see if the seal is leaking? I really want this thing to last so any tips or opinions would be great. This rebuild is taking too long and I am itching to go ride! Thanks.

You're sled doesn't need to win that drag race or get that high mark... as long as you can tow you're buddies out at the end of the day!

I think he's referring to the big bearing mod that was on like the 02's?? Never heard of a crank upgrade for the newer ones.

the bearing problems were on the big block 800 in the GenII and Edge model 800's from 01 to 05. The small block 800 is built off of the 440 race engine and has a very stout block/crank. The small block engine has it's issues, but bearing failure isn't common.
