'90 500 with a fuel issue?
Howdy,
Working on this 1990 Indy 500 SKS.
So, I bought this thing with another sled, and the other sled is running fine.
This machine started up, then dies, so I did not think much about it.
Now I am trying to get it running. Here is what I have done so far:
1. Changed Plugs
2. Changed Fuel Filter
3. Drained old gas out, and put in new gas, 6 gallons
4. Looked inside the carbs, they look clean....
It starts up, SOMETIMES, so I thought it has a fuel issue. I check for spark, and pressurized the gas tank, saw fuel go into the fuel filter. It starts, runs for 2-3 minutes, then "bogs down" and I try to give it gas and it dies. Can't restart it right away, so I tried re-pressurizing the gas tank, and starts sometimes, does the same 2-3 minutes thing, sounds fine when it runs.
I did pull the fuel pump a couple of minutes ago, open it up, looked clean. The only thing I noticed was a bit of either fuel or oil in the pump line coming from the crankcase. I do get pressure when I pull the motor over.
It is just strange, the thing runs fine, if it starts, but won't stay running. Not sure if when I put pressure in the tank if that makes it better or if it's unrelated.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, before I take it to the next step.
Also looking for recommendations on how to pull the oil out of the chain case, before I pull the cover.
Thanks
Bob
