Overheating question Indy 500

New snowmobiler here.
I bought a used 1990 indy 500 last year. Mostly for riding around my back yard with kids.
After about 10 minutes, I heat a hi temp warning.
I'm going pretty slow around the same loop, so the snow is fairly packed. Is it normal for it to overheat in these conditions because of lack of snow kicking up to cool the coolant?
Should I be looking into getting a fan cooled ski for my purpose?
The ski runs great otherwise... Fast and powerful.

Thanks in advanced!

Is there a lot of white smoke when you start it?

The smoke looks typical and doesn't smell sweet like antifreeze.

i have three of these sleds somtimes the motors will leak and it will burn off anti-freez does it seem to get low on fluid rather quickly? If it doesnt you mite have an air bubble in your line try parking on a descent hill or snowbank pointed up it and let it idle and watch for air bubbles in the anti-freeze container.

OK. Thanks for the help.
So it shouldn't overheat with my riding style?

Also keeping a little snow on the running boards will help if you arnt in deep enough snow to kick some up on the heat exchangers.

Cool. Good suggestion about snow on running boards.
I might look to see if I have air in the line. When I lift the front end and let it idle, do I open the coolant fill tank or take the rad cap off?
Also, since I don't have a manual, approx how much coolant should I see in the reservoir when cold? Thanks again everyone!

After it starts to get warm, take off the pressure cap.

I lifted the front end yesterday and relieved some pressure. I then added more coolant and it seemed to work! I rode around for another 15 minutes with no overheating. Thanks everyone!

if you still have problems, i would run a radiator in addition to heat exchangers. some tube and atv radiator wouldnt be very expensive. some people also use *ice scratchers* that loosens packed snow infront of the exchangers and kicks up snow
