Changed out my chaincase oil the other day, took off cover and cleaned it up, put new gasket on and filled it up. I took it out yesterday and and checked the the oil and it was low after like 15 miles, refilled and and rode again and seemed low. I got back home and topped it off and rechecked this morning and it hadn't leaked at all. It was hard to tell if and where the leak was coming from and I spilled some oil when I filled it. Also how warm/hot should the chain case cover get, it was hot, but is next to the exhaust. I didn't notice any oil in the snow under the drive shaft, so I am hoping it is just that I pinched the gasket-which was a pain to get on, any thing else to look for? It didn't leak at all before I changed gasket. Thanks

Gasket would be my guess if it didn't leak before you changed the lube....probably leaking just above the oil level so when it's churned up by the chain it leaks but doesn't when it sits.

try putting a little dab of RTV on the split in the gasket. Also make sure the split is at the very top of the cover.

thanks guys, thats what I'm hoping. I did put the split at the top but did not rtv it, so will do that today. If the driveshaft seal were leaking would you be able to see it dripping by the track?
