Crapy lights on indy lite gt!
Hi guys,
I just put my hands on a very nice indy lite gt long track, it runs great, the only thing is i find the lights (headlights and tail light) not so bright at all! Is this a commun thing? Is there a problem somewhere? What can i do to see something at night? Different bulbs?
Thanks
Dan

Clean all the ground connections, particularly the Voltage regulator.

re
If you have a battery it needs to be fully charged. If it is a bad battery or nearly dead you'll get the same result.
I bought a 96 Indy Lite GT last year. The lights are inferior on that machine. My XLT has a halogen type bulb in it which will also fit the Indy Lite which only has an incandescent bulb. I just got a new halogen bulb from DennisKirk.com, p/n 22309 which is 60/55W, costs $5.99 + shipping. It will fit all 3 of my Indy's but is going into my Lite GT. I will keep the GT light as an emergency spare. I have had this bulb in my 94 Sport for years and it works well.
My tail light is also dim... I will sort that out later. I will probably look up a brighter replacement LED bulb, because as always if you go with a brighter incandescent bulb you run the risk of heat melting the tail light cover.
Along with that, I also plan on throwing out that cheezy riding lawn mower key switch and replacing it with a normal Polaris switch. They cut a lot of corners when it came to electrics, but it can all be easily fixed. I wouldn't recommend buying a bulb from Polaris, they'll just give you another yellow burning incandescent bulb!
Happy Holidays

Meanwhile... Back on top for other ideas for lighting and maybe if you guys have advice on easy cheap mods for that little lite beast of mine!!

You can get a complete rebuild kit for the recoil start from many part suppliers. Heck the motorsports store by me keeps them in stock.

Are the dash lights dim too? I just had to replace my regulator on my 94 XLT for all the lights being dim. Like RJ said, clean the ground on the regulator first if you haven't already.

Yeah, i found used part guy here in Quebec,Canada who's got a entire casing with new spring and rope and want to trade it for my entire casing with busted spring and rope+15$! So i'll get that tomorrow, and it'll save me the pain to deal with the spring!
As for the regulator, where exactly is that? As stated earlier in my thread, not much of a snowmobile mecanic, little more details would be apreciated!!!
Thanks a pile

Your voltage regulator is located below the choke and ignition key, it is a little square black box that is about 1.5 to 2 inches long with 2 bolts holding it on and a yellow wire coming out of it. There will be a ground wire attached to one of the bolts so make sure that it is attached to one of the bolts if you replace the regulator, I was having the exact issue with my Polaris xcr 600. It's important to purchase a voltage regulator from Polaris , new or used, I have heard that the aftermarket ones don't last. Good luck

So i looked at the voltage regulator, i cleaned all the conections and it didnt help so i bought a new one! It hasnt arrived yet!
I would also like to change the windshield on that thing, actualy, the windshield itself isnt bad but the trim around the light that the windshield bolts on is totaly wrecked. Anyone actualy knows hoe that trim is called and where i can get a hold of one off the internet?
Well appreciated! Oh yeah, i got me a pair of plastic ski skins, hoping it'll help the steel skis to glide a bit better on the snow!
