What do you guys know about a '99 Polaris XC 600?

Pretty much like the title says, I'm wondering how nice the 99 xc 600's are. Thinking about buying one. How powerful? Rough estimate on top speed? Reliability? To be honest I'm mainly interested in whether or not I will be disappointed by its power. Thanks!

RJ - small block would be the one with the power valve - thats a '00 XC 600SP. SM55 - different chassis in '99 compared to '98 - just using the same BIG block motor. WL

I had a 99 & a 2000 - 500, now I have a 2001 600, the liberty motors are extremly reliable, the 99 you're looking I'm guessing is the same thing as my old 500 which was a great trail sled, plenty of power, light weight and comfortable ride. Not sure about the price range you are spending on it but its a good quality machine if its been taken care of

Personally, I don't believe you've given enough information to get any useful information.

What area are you in? What sort of riding do you do? Do you have a sled currently? If so, what is it?

Whether or not this particular machine would be something you enjoy or not would have a lot to do with your size, riding, style, and the topography of where you ride. The last piece is whether or not it's an upgrade, lateral change, or downgrade from what you've been riding (if anything).

If you're over 6', more than a couple hundred pounds - the sled will pull you along well, but you may not be all that comfortable on it compared to getting into a similar machine in the Edge chassis. Same sort of comment if your riding style is "ditch banging" as opposed to trail cruising.

If you want sled for groomed trails that pulls well and has a reasonable level of comfort, it's a good ride. The non-VES motor has fewer moving parts in it than the VES motors, so it's a little easier to maintain than if you had the VES valves to maintain as well.

If you compare that machine to mine, even though mine is a 500, I'll take mine any day over that 600. It's about 50 pounds heavier, develops similar horsepower (it's an XCSP, VES motor), and has a better suspension under it.

Well the guy I was buying from fell through and decided to stop contacting me. I later found a 98 XC 600 and went ahead and bought it. Seems like a good sled: big block, good track, perfect seat, 3500 miles, all maintenance done for year. Runs great! I only got to test drive it a little but it hauled! Lookin' forward to getting it out on the trails! Oh and by the way my previous sled was an 88 Yamaha Phazer which I'm pretty sure is a 485cc fan so this is a bit of an upgrade haha.

Be "cautious" with that motor. They had some issues with the CDI, and it can impact the motor.

Otherwise, good machine and definitely fast.

great machine! my 98 xc 600 took home a second place trophy in the stock 600class at a local radar run, losing to the nssr world record holding sled! it beat many exhaust valved sleds much newer than it. great little sled!

Nice sled, 110hp and nearly as many mph. Definately a big step up from a Phazer! I'm happy with the performance of my big block 600.

Cruzr, long time no see!
