correct rpm for clutch engagement

Can anyone tell me what the correct rpm should be for a 1998 indy 500?
mine seems to kick in around 400 rpm.I put in a rebuilt clutch this week but cant remember when the old one kicked in. 400 seems high to me.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming you mean 4000. That's in the ball park. If I remember correctly, it should be 3800 +/- 200 rpm.

Thinking BC_Dan is correct, my '93 XLT SP kicks in around the 4000rpm mark too.
