Cool secondary clutch adj. 96 xlt rmk triple 600

Hello folks, just wondering what the adjustment on the outside will do if I were to open the sheaves up more or close the small gap, is there a setting to shoot for? Or is it a personal preference? I am talking about the 3 bolts with the washer that rotates to either close the gap or open. What way would lower rpm? Thank you.

The adjuster is used to compensate for belt wear. As the belt wears, turn the adjuster to move the sheaves a bit closer together. I try to adjust to keep the belt just out of the secondary. Don't rotate the adjuster past the number 1 or it will be difficult to open.
