Question Why does it take 30 pulls to get my 08 dragon 800 started??

Hi I just bought this 2008 dragon 800 163 from a dealer almost 3 weeks ago. Why does it take 30 pulls to get the motor started when its cold. It runs good once it's started but after it sits for a while and the motor gets cold it is a real bitch to start. Any info would be good, things I could try? New spark plugs?. It starts eventually but it's just ridiculous I gave up after 20 pulls tonight.

Could be dirty injection, or fuel pump or cracked fuel line,

The compression is good and is even on both cylinders. Once I get it started the first time it starts one pull everytime when the engine is warm. I had a little issue when I took it out the one day, I rode for probably an hour and then when I was pulling into my yard it died like if you were to shut the key off. But then it would start right back up again after I pulled the rope. It's been a real cow to start cold ever since I got it. The dealer did an inspection on it and everything checked out good. Of course when I test drove it, it was sitting in a show room so it fired up nice there. Beginning to think I shoulda kept my old sled seeing as I'm planning on going to Revelstoke BC in 2 weeks. But the spark plugs looked not the cleanest so maybe ill try those first?

What kind of oil are you using? I had similar issues with both my EFI sleds. I was using Blue Marble. After the engine sits and cools down, the oil was condensing in the crankcase and first crank would oil foul the plugs. It would pop once or twice on the first pull, then would not start. Changing plugs would start the engine, or removing plugs and burning off the oil with a torch also worked. I switched back to Polaris Gold and have not had that issue since.

Pull the plugs and take a look, if they are wet and oily, you could be having a similar issue...

I'm not sure what it had in it to begin with but it was little under half full so I went and filled it up with the Polaris Gold synthetic oil. So maybe if I get some new plugs and try burning it out it might work for me?

It worked for me. It got so bad using the BM I started packing a propane torch to burn the oil off of the plugs after the first pull. Once the sled got started, it would run fine all day; it was just after sitting that it became an issue. Plugs were new, but really wet from oil. It's easy to test; if the sled doesn't fire on the second pull, pull the plugs and try different ones or burn the oil off with a torch. Use gloves, those pesky plugs get hot!!

Don't know much about EFI but is there a sensor like a fuel injected car for starting cold? Just a thought
