89 sprint air pods(modifiying)

I have an 89 sprint 340es, dual mekuni carbs, im thinking of losing the stock air box and installing pod air filters instead. I know i need to increase the mains but im wondering what the formula for this would be? someone told me to go up 2 sizes, i think its 155 or 55 main right now i cant remember. If anybody has knowledge on this it would be appreciated. Im just trying to get a little more hp outa this thing. thanks

You will gain more hp from getting more cold air into the engine than putting pods on will.
A cold air intake and removing any restrictions to flow in the intake and exhaust is where the hp gains are.
Just putting pods on will draw the warm air from under the hood and actually cost you hp.

Ok, in that case i can still lose the air box but rig up a cold air ram intake then. Now as for the exhaust is there a way to lose some of the baffling that would pose as a restriction without losing backpressure?

You can gut the silencer.
The best and cheapest thing you can do to improve performance is to go through the drive train and make sure that you have reduced any friction to a minimum.
Align the track, make sure that the clutches are clean and functioning perfectly, maybe add a clutch kit to change engagement rpm, make sure that the track roll free and smooth.

These little thing can add up to a significant amount of speed and faster acceleration.

Gutting the silencer completely? just cut it open pull everything out and weld the plate back on and it will be ok just like that?
