2009 IQ shift bumper broke off when lifting

I am new to this forum my 2009 IQ switch 600 136 just broke the front bumper loose when I went to lift the front & move it over in the trailer, sled is like new bought it in 2010 new exec. sled could not ride last year, what is up with this, broke the vent, nose cone & another piece causing hood to move back, obviously warranty has expired but I would have expected a recall notice before this happened any info. ?

The bumper is decoration only. There was no recall because Polaris states in their literature not to lift by the bumper, so you were doing something they did not recommend. Therefore, in their eyes, the bumper is performing as designed. It's just a lousy design.

Buy a Skinz bumper and you can hang the sled from the rafters if you want. I have 'em on all three of my IQ sleds.

Skinz Protective Gear

thanks for info

sure makes me ask why I went back to Polaris, that skinz bumper looks like what I need & some cheap plastic from Polaris, Polaris had a kit that was discontinued & now individual parts are over $1000, I checked my owners manual & it says do not use for pulling or dragging but nothing about lifting you would think they would have to stand behind their inferior product
Thanks again for info

No problem. When you remove the old bumper, you will be amazed at how little material attaches it to the sled. Two little pieces of bellypan plastic is all you are lifting with.

I learned about the bumper when watching a guy try to help his buddy. One of the sleds lost it's brakes, the other guy tied a rope to his bumper (05 900) and slow the first guy down on the long, steep hill we had to come down. About 20 feet into the ascent, the bumper tore loose and down the hill the first sled went, at Mach 2. Scary, to say the least. Then a couple of years when I was out riding with another guy, he was helping lift my sled out of the snow. He had an identical sled to mine (07 700) and before I could stop him, he tried to lift the front by the bumper. Yep. You guessed it. Tore it right off. Was a very stressful moment for the other guy, being as he had just come to work for our dept. and I was his boss

I should have let him sweat a bit.. but naa... I let him off the hook pretty easily. I already had the Skinz in the garage
