The reverse in your sled is PERC (Polaris Electronic Reverse Control.) It works by stalling the engine, and just before it dies, the electronics fire to start the engine to run backwards.

When you push the button, there should be a flashing light in the speedometer. If the light doesn't come on, you could have a bad button. If the blinking light comes on and the engine dies when you try to move, it may be in the wrong mode. There are two modes, one for low elevation, one for high. You can change modes by holding the button in. The speed of the blinking light will change from slow to fast. If it's blinking fast, hold it in and try the slow mode to see if that will help. The fast blinking is the high elevation setting for elevations over 6000 feet.

Directions and explanation of the PERC are on page 63 of the owner's manual. If you don't have one, you can download one from Polaris at http://www.polaris.com/en-us/Company...9918225r03.pdf

Also, I believe that it's important that the motor be running correctly and idling at the proper speed or it won't engage.

If the sled is idling to low when you push it, it will try to engage but will kill the motor. Does your sled have the correct perc Cdi in it and a team secondary?

I am having the same trouble as the OP. Just picked up a 2004 700 vertical edge yesterday. When I was looking at it, I started it and it went in and out of reverse just fine. Got it home, started it and put it in reverse to get it out of the back of the pickup, it did great. Put it back in forward and it worked great. Rode it up and down the driveway once, then went to back it in to the garage...no response whatsoever. rode it a little more, still no response. Shut it off, started it, still no response. Repeated a couple times, still no response. Luckily I bought it used from a dealer and I am going to take it back in to them today to look at. Could it be anything but a bad switch? Just seems kinda odd that it would go completely dead all of the sudden. We have a 2006 600 and a 2003 600 that both have PERC and have never once had a problem with either.
