How old is the fuel? Have the carbs been cleaned?

cleaned carbs out real good last week and it continued. i tested the gas by sphining some out and funneling it into the cyl through the carb by holding the throttle full open.

Oh yeah, the pilot jets could be clogged. If you're going to pull the carbs you may want to go through everything again. I typically buy carb cleaner spray and have a can with a basket for carb cleaning... Take all the screws/jets out. Remove any rubber gaskets, then you can throw the entire carb and all the metal parts into the can. Let each sit in the can for a bit while you take apart the next one. Make sure you always have one assembled just in case you forget how they go back together. Take the carb out of the can and hit all the passages with a thin wire to remove any debris. Then shoot the spray cleaner through them. Last, you should blow out everything with compressed air before reassembling.

If you haven't, I would also do a compression check. If you don't have a gauge you can rent one at an O'riley Auto parts store for free. They will also have the carb cleaning can.

If she doesn't start then, at least you can check some boxes on what it's not.

Have you thought about a compression test?

Compression test, clogged fuel line from pump to carb, bad seat needle, bad fuel pump, clogged pilots.. Lots of possibles.

I've been reading quite a bit lately about cleaning carbs with Lestoil. No need to remove all of the parts, it's bio-friendly, and requires only water to rinse out afterward. The one caution folks seem to make is to remember that certain parts (like gaskets) will swell. Give them a day or two to settle back to normal after you finish rinsing. Otherwise, people swear it works BETTER than carb cleaner.

i dont understand how any of these would work one day and stop the next time i try starting it. like i said its sucking gas. i see a little move through the line with every pull! i know i gotta do all of this to rule out the possibilities but its puzzling!

Change in temps, humidity, more "varnish" developing in the carbs over time... All sorts of things that contribute to the proverbial tipping point that could make it stop working.

Have you checked each of the plugs after a few pulls to see if they're all getting gas?

Make sure everything is setup right on the carbs when you reinstall. Your air screws should be 1 full turn out from lightly seated. Also, make sure your choke plungers are all bottoming out and while you have them out check to see that your choke cables are all pulling when you flip the lever. My 94 started hard, then I figured out one of the 3 cables was shredded.

2 strokes, especially tripples can be a little finicky.

Does it start back up when it's warm and you shut it off without starter fluid?

i start with starting fluid 5-10 times, each time it runs up to about 10 seconds and dies.

Shoot! I thought it continued to run. Gotta tell us these things! Could be the fuel pump. I don't think it would start with fluid if you were flooding and had excess fuel.
