The xlt engine has always been a bit of a problem when it comes to oiling. I would not delete the pump. Premix doesn't make it's way to the outside bearings very well, that's why they added an additional oil line to that area.

There may be someone that can chime in about the proper way to do it. I recall that additional holes have been drilled in the case to get more oil to the outside bearing, but I can't comment much more than that.

If you do, 50:1 is the norm, but I would run 40:1 just to be safe.

Just bought this thing on a steal and he said the oil injection was deleted. Easier to just hook up the oil injection back up?

it all depends on how much of your oil system has been deleted. if they just unhooked the cable, or lines then i would fix it. if the pump is gone and the case is plugged, well your hands are kind of tied at the point. check it over and see what you would need to do to make it operational. check pump, lines, tank, cable, etc... xlt issue with bearings was because the outside crank bearing (clutch side) didn't get enough oil. opening the transfer ports helps alot, but removing the oil injection won't make any difference. the oil injection mixes with the gas at the cylinders, pre-mix will just be mixed as it goes through the carbs but either way that outside bearing has to be lubricated through the transfer port. I usually just run a very light amount of oil in the gas with the oil injection. it smokes more and I have to run a hotter plug to burn it off, but the sled performs the same and its cheap insurance.

I thought the oil issue with the cranks only applied to certain 580/600 engines, not all. There is a bulletin or letter that pointed out the problematic engines... but i thought the 96 600 engines were OK as is. I have almost 7000 miles on mine... all original I believe I have a copy of the letter on my computer at home if anyone needs it.
