Heated Shield and 1998 Indy Trail 488

Hi,

I know this question has been asked a bunch (I have been reading them), but I just want to confirm:

I am looking to add the connector for a heated shield to my machine. My machine has no battery, so I am looking to hook into pretty much any yellow wire for my 12V, and brown for ground. I am currently thinking if I take off the padding/plastic on the handlebars I can splice into the grip warmers?

Also, is a fuse required for this, looks like some people add them, most do not?

fuse is not required. i would tap into the key switches power, run that to a seperate toggle swich, and the toggle to the heated shield so you can turn it off and on. this is how (at least i think) it should be. its how mine is.
