93 storm 750 and 87 indy 600 questions...
i currently have an 87 indy 600 that needs some work but is in goo condition. seat has no rips, hood has no cracks, fox shocks/new hyfax, but needs belt and spare, pipe welded, wirng fixed (works but barely), new windshield, new choke cable, headlight, and thats all i can think of. I am looking at a 93 storm 750 for 500. it needs new track andhood is broke in a spot, runs good has triple pipes (rusty but mostly surface) and xtra-12 suspension. is it worth 500 and some changin of parts to build one sled? wht is best combo? 600 also has aftermarket skis.

Tripples were known for blowing up. mines the only acception i have ever seen. it has 11,000 miles and never melted a piston its awesome. Those storms were know for trouble i would saty away. its not everyday you find an acception like mine you know!!!

you are so wrong... SOME triples had issues. to say all triple a know to melt pistons and blow is like saying all twins blow cranks.
storms are a good motor, but with the triple pipes (stock) you have to pay more attention to conditions and how the engine is running. the triples with single pipes are a little more forgiving. in 93 polaris had not released a sled with xtra-12 yet. so if this 93 has one, someone did a swap, so then the questions start. was the front end done also? condition of the parts used? installed and lined-up correctly? etc... also, interchangability with your 600 is there, but not everything is the same and some parts wont work as well together. my advice would be to sell the 600 and look for something newer that is closer to stock. maybe a nice xc or ultra? $500 is cheap, but what will it really cost you?

I say go for it. Polaris are great sleds to mod and interchange. We did an older wedge xlt into a longtrack extra 10. Ditched the original motor for a 99 Xcr engine. It was totally worth it. We also used parts from the 650 Rxl. The sled is a real head turner, has a great ride, and is faster than some modern 600s...especially in the woods. My next swap is going into a 1980 Txl 340....500 l/c twin. Why? Well for the hell of it of course!

If you get storm you mine as well buy 800 pistons for it but I wouldn't buy storm if it has updated nicasil cylinders. I like the steel sleeve ones better
