1997 polaris ultra spx has no headlight or tail light

Hey guys, now that you helped me get my ultra running; now... the lights won't work. When I first got the sled to run the headlight lit up nicely, now... nothing. Even the dash lights dim and brighten all of a sudden. I can get the little hi beam light on the dash to light up when i move the switch, but not the headlight or tail light. I'v wiggled all the wires that lead up to the light but still haven't gotten the lights to work again. Anyone got any ideas? I haven't check the bulbs yet, but I just cant see both of them blowing at the same time, along with the taillight not working. I'm thinking it's a ground problem somewhere. Would the rectifier of regulator cause anthing like this? Thx guys

ty for the help, I will check under the seat to check the wires tomorrow and see if the regulator looks suspect

I know it sounds crazy but my friends Phazer did that last year and he did actually blow all the bulbs on the sled at the same time. We did find a ground that wasn't very good and we rewired it and replaced the bulbs and that solved the problem. Double check your bulbs just to be sure.

A bad regulator will take out all of the bulbs at the same time. If your remaining ones are going from dim to bright and back I would suspect that it's the regulator. Fairly easy to check bulbs to see if filament has burned out.

x2. im having similar issue. lights are reasonably bright when i start sled and there is a light glow coming from the regulator and if i hit the brake lever the head light get SLIGHTLY DIMMER untill i let go which i understand is normal. after a minute they go very dim and the light on the vlt reg goes off. then sometimes the lights get EXTREAMLY bright as does the glow on the vlt reg. this extream bright is the same level of brightness i get when i unplug the vlt reg. if i unplug vlt reg @ any time the lights get supper bright. whats up here?

Sounds if both of your regulators are bad. Lights should brighten when you unplug regulator. As mentioned on other posts, don't rev your engine when it's unplugged. Sometimes the regulator works fine until it starts to get warm and then they fail. Check Dennis Kirk or HPE for replacement.

Look at the top of the voltage regulator, if the orange light is very dim you need to replace it. If clean it should be fairly bright and yes it will cause your wires to be warm/hot. I just had the same problem on my 97' SPX SE. Have not had a problem since.

i replaced my volt reg w/ a new $24 aftermarket one i found on ebay and fixed the problem. i also ran a seperate ground wire from the regulator mounting bolt right into a ground wire on the harness just to be sure there were no chassis grounding issues. fixed all issues.
