Well... it's Saturday morning ,sun & clouds ,& a warmer -11c here in Canada . This is going to be the day for really running & testing the Ultra (break in) . Checking plug colors for mid range ,leaks ,oil consumption ,& what ever else I can think of?
I hope I don't have a run like I did with my Rev three weeks ago,all fingers & toes are crossed Let you know how it goes.

OK... back from my 35 mile run just now & everything seems to be running pretty strong with the Ultra! Man O man... the snow is still as smooth as glass out there & lots of it to!No wide open throttle yet, just squirts of it once & a while.Oil res is consuming oil good , temps seem to be normal & cyl.'s warm to the touch.
Still not happy with this throttle cable will have to look out for something else , but good for break in .Tomrrow will take comp test just to check (MQ)
Starts first pull cold full choke ,even warm ,but no choke needed !

So far , thinking about it I do have question ...about the oil tank on these Ultra's .Has any of you ever had a problem with false reeding on the oil level ? I meen like if you fill it right to the top on the filler spote & if you look on the the pto side of the tank it says it is just above low oil

Ok... Sunday was another beutiful day! Decided to take another run, fueled up & toped up with oil.The oil consumption seemed to me pretty high it took just about (2 liters,or just about half a gallon)Pump is on the marks for idle & WOT adjustment ? Yup & it smoked like it to ...well plus 50:1 in the tank also (for break in still),looked like the house was on fire when letting it warm up.
One issue I did have 4 miles from home I blew a belt ! Just 20 sec. before that ther was a vibration ,then shratnel . Then takin off again there seemed to be more vibration, but in the track area like the drive shaft thinking it maybe the speedo cable side of the shaft bearing is gone? limped it home the rest of the way.I'll have to put it back in the hospitle (shop) & take a closer inspection this week.
If your thinking that my speedo should have not been working before this ...your absolutly correct! It wasn't... so this is my fault for not checking the bearing before starting to break in the engine, but I'll still have to check to be 100%

On the Weekend (Saturday) I did get around on to checking the vibration out .Took speedo gear side off & inspected ,bearing has no play whatso ever. I also loosened the track all the way & pryed a bar to get some play out of it & nothing see's tight! The speedo drive gear cable going into the shaft was broken. I'm thinking the guy before me changed the track ,but not the cable shaft?
Well put her back together & tightend her up ,hmmm.. started the sled without the belt got her to engage at 4500rpm & no vibation there. At closer inspection of the belt (used) not new there was a place on the belt where the clutch was spinning ,(a smoked belt ) as I call it.Put on another belt & the vibration is gone ! O happy days are here again! hope to pick up another set of cables today so I can set these carbs set properly.
O ya... just about forgot 1 tank of fuel has just about been gone through (50:1) & 1 quart of oil from the oil res.tank the commpression is still at 120lbs. in all three !

If you smoked the belt - the belt becomes like an "hourglass" at one spot and at first off riding, you would hear and feel a thumping noise until you reach at a higher speed. Change to a new belt .. it will solve the problem. You can use the bad belt for a spare.
Cable key is usually broken when the bearing on the drive shaft goes bad - if the bearing was replaced at that time and never replaced the key - that would explains it. BUT if the speedo was working recently while you were riding and then breaks - something is wrong. WL

The bugs still have to be worked out , but man it is fun to bringing something alive again after two frigin years & not Knowing what the hell was wrong with someone eles junk it in the first place , see it run & drive... it that in it's self is priceless ! It may be 17 teen years old now ,but it still can be mighty! Thanks (WL) for listening so far & everyone else of course to my rebuild & more pics they are a coming !:thumbsup :

The water pump was the first thing on my list. With a stripped gear in the (original) pump, well... I had the other one off the (puchased motor) ,& it was not so great either ,the weep hole was leaking & also on the original so both had to come apart !
Taking this little sucker apart & back together was some ordeal exspecally 2 of them !
Pressing bearings ,seals ,& oil rings ,if you notice the bearing to the right on the table it has a 3/8 ancor tapped in it ,so they could be removed from the casing ,which usally you would need a blind puller for this & the pic of the pumpbhas a socket ,washers ,nuts & ready rod to press bearing in.
With all new seals & bearings even the bolt that holds the impeller on has it's own washer seal !Was'nt taking a chance after going this deep.Only thing I reused was the impller & the gear from the purchased motor, new $100! Savings on just the gear alone.

Thanks guys & (WL) ...well you can never be to clean.I hate working on dirty stuff.
After scraping & washing every part it was time to get this thing together ,heres a pic of the top half of the crank case upside down for fitment of the crank.
The bottom half had the 518 Locktight gasket maker applied evenly ,the crank put in lining all the pins on the crank bearings for alinment.
Bottom half is done ready to flipped over & the top end installed.
With seals on the crank & everything ready it was time to put the bottmend on,mate the two halves & put all the bolts to there right locations & torque them to specs.
