To get the rollers out, you will need to disassemble the clutch. That will require some specialized tools. You will need a clutch holding fixture, a spider wrench, and a spider nut wrench. A clutch press is also nice. The spider nut and spider are really on there, you will need to re-torque those to over 200 ft.lbs. 1/2" drive tools need not apply. A good manual is also pretty important.

If this is the only clutch you are dealing with, it may be cheaper to have it rebuilt than do it yourself. Cost of rebuilding is sometimes almost the same as a new clutch, though!

Very true and Well said BC_Dan. New clutches (depending where you get them) can range from 250 and Up. You can EASILY spend that in just tool and parts.

Sometimes the spider and the nut are so fused together on the threads that you will never get them apart.

Or you can have the dealer rebuild the clutch instead of buying the clutching tools to rebuild the clutch yourself. All youd be paying is for the parts cost and dealer labor to do the work. Just a thought. WL

I'd probably run it if it were mine, but I wouldn't buy it if it was yours... make sense? It's hard to tell what that will do the sides of the belt. I like my clutches as close to perfect as I can get 'em, they do a LOT of work in the drivetrain.

Make sure that the clutch your thinking of purchasing will work on your sled's engine. It's my understanding that the clutch for the Liberty engines will fit but you'll not be able to get them off.

Seepndeep is right, they will fit. It's a 30mm taper on the end of the crank snout but he is wrong about the removal. you'll be able to get them off as they use the same thread on the bolt, but the bolt and hole in the clutch are a smaller diameter and that requires a different puller. But just to play it safe, if you (or a friend maybe even your dealer) has access to a Liberty engine that's been blown or had the clutch removed take a thread gauge and measure the thread of that bolt vs yours.

I would also call the local dealers and see if they have any take-off clutches. Often, a sled doesn't come with electric start, and it is added at the dealer. The non-electric start clutches can't be modified to accept the ring gear, so a new clutch is part of the e-kit. The dealer ends up having a bunch of new or almost new clutches that they can't get rid of. I have seen them sell those for around 200 bucks, which is a really good deal.

It's worth a try!

ok so the clutch from the 600 is a liberty clutch is this because its a triple or somthing and i guess it will have to be from a sled that has the same clutch and your right it does look a little different

Most Polaris snowmobile clutches are P-85 clutches. Most have a 1:10 taper on a 30mm shaft. Some of the newer ones have a 33mm shaft. Then there is a narrow roller and a wide roller clutch. Also, there are some of the Fuji engines that have a different offset in the clutch, so if you use a clutch with the wrong offset, it can wipe out your PTO crank seal. Polaris doesn't make it easy.

A good rule of thumb is any clutch for a Fuji twin will fit another Fuji twin, any clutch for a Fuji triple will fit another Fuji triple. Most Liberty (Polaris made) engines have the same crankshaft stub and offset, but different clutches will use different pullers. Then you get into the 33mm. Can't forget those! I haven't tried to put a clutch for a Fuji engine on a Liberty engine, so I'm not sure what will work and what wont.

Buying on Ebay is a crap shoot. If the clutch is coming off an identical sled, you should be good. But a lot of sellers don't know there are so many differences, so you may get a clutch that doesn't work for your sled. That is frustrating.

The ring gear works fine on a non e-start engine. Some guys even add one because it seems to help dampen vibration.

If the springs and weights in your clutch are fine, you can swap your stuff into the new clutch. When you take the cover off, note there is an X on the cover. There's a similar X on the spider. When you put the cover back on the clutch, make sure the X's are aligned.
