Should i buy this sled?

Its a 91 polaris 650 with tripple pipes. Needs a new top end 200 on ebay. Other than that its got a great trach and looks in condition. Guy is askin 400. I'm just wondering if you guys think its even worth it. I'm gonna fix it and sell it this fall or winter. What you guys think

Don't pay anything more than $200.00. I would say $150 tops. it needs at least a new top end, not considering WHY it needs a top end. If it has pipes and needs pistons, it probably isn't set up for the pipes. So you would need either stock exhaust or carb/clutch parts....

If you plan to flip it for cash, just buy it as cheap as you can and part it out as it sits. Depending on the brand of pipes, those can still get you decent money on ebay and a good 15x121 track is worth $150+ all day. If it is piped, the clutches have probably been done as well. Those clutch parts are worth money to old school sled builds too. sell what ever you can over the summer/fall and dump the chassis. If you buy it and fix it, the sled will sell for $500 max this fall and you will have that much in it, minimum.

Crank could be damaged too with metal in the bearings, etc. Just not worth the risk.

X2 on the part-out. YOu will make way more $$$ on parts than fixing it and selling it. I would make a real low offer- $100 or less and see what he says. When it comes to old sleds that need a lot of work, most poeple just want them gone, out of their sight and will take a lot less than they are asking.

Case in point, last summer I went to look at a '96 cougar, the guy was asking $500, I offered him $75 because it had no spark and the fuel lines were all rotted. He said no, then called me back a month later and said he would take $100. I got it home, bypassed the broken kill switch, got it running, tore it apart and made about $1300 on parts!. Only had to buy a clutch puller!

I wouldn't do it. You wont make enough money from it. My brother bought a 1999 Powder Special 600 and ended up puting a ton of money into it just to make it run....(which it didn't for long) ;(

everyone here is being such downers...a 91 is NOT that old. How is the sled's condition? OVERALL? I mean its YOUR MONEY...you do what you want. I bought a 91 Indy 500 Classic that didn't run at the time either. I had to do SOME work. the biggest things were bearings in the drive and a primary rebuild. I had her for 3 yrs. Its been a GREAT sled.

I think if its tunnel and bulkhead are sound, with a little TLC, it may be a VERY decent sled.

I dont know, it's all up to you.

From what i can see in the pics its ok. Needs top end and skis, which skis i have from my 96 polaris. Top end is already apart(makes me wiery). I tried talkin him down he wouldnt budge. I got my 96 680 for $600, all it needed was gas lol. So unless he will drop it to at least 300 I'm not even gonna waste my breath.

Yeah I'd pass on it altogether. I agree with the aforementioned reasons, and I'll add that I think you wouldn't really make a great profit parting it out either.

You had a 7 year advantage over him; realisticly zdw might make about half that.

Yea I'm over it about to buy a cheaper project this weekend. 96 polaris 600 xlt. For 300 just needs new feul lines and carbs cleaned and new ignition. And some tape over the seat lol unless i can find one for cheap.

how do you know if needs an ignition and carb clean? could be bigger problems... be careful on the xlt. easy to part out though so for $300 if its decent you should be okay. link to the add?

I wouldn't go over 250 depending on the bodies condition. Maybe there is a reason he took apart the top end and saw other damage, then said fuck it and I'll sell it. It all depends on what you want to do with it and if you want to keep it or flip it.

No key for the ignition and fuel is first thing i think of. No battery. Has good compression.
