Plasti-dipping my XLT
I wanted to start a thread for my plasti-dip process. I love this sled, but really Polaris, pink, teal and purple? I have been thinking about painting the hood for a while now, but thought it would be such a shame seeing as though the stock decals are in such great shape. So, I decided that I would plasti-dip it. That way if I keep it long enough, I can just peel off the plasti-dip and have a completely stock sled underneath.
This stuff is awesome to work with, just do your prep. I washed the parts down, then dried and sprayed with air. Goo-goned any sticker residue, and then a final wipe down with some body shop adhesive/grease remover.
Here is a before:
This is one coat on the nosecone:
Here is how it looks on my headlight cover when wet. It looks like there is dust in it, but it actually sprays out like thinned out bedliner with a hammered look to it:
This is the nosecone with 3-4 coats on it:
Hood taped off:

Here is a comparison shot of the finished nosecone next to the hood:
I will post back as soon as I make a little more progress.

I know, I will see how it holds up on a sled. Easy project, so if it sucks, then it sucks. At least I know what it will look like satin black.
I have read that you can just touch up any scratches by spraying right over them and it blends right in. A lot of the guys on the F-150 forums spray their wheels, bumpers, fender flares, and anything else that they can think of, and haven't had any problems with it. We will see.

That's cool. What a great winter hey? Lack of snow made me finally decide to do this. Of course, now that it's all apart they are getting nailed with snow up north the next day or two. Hopefully it's dry enough to put back together so I can run up this weekend.

I've actually ridden quite a bit down here. I put 200 miles on upnorth over Christmas break and the rest down here on private property and dodge country trails when they were open. I'm probably heading upnorth this weekend for one last ride!

Going to have to go pretty far up. I was planning on going up to Iola/Waupaca area to bomb around in our field and woods, but now it looks like they aren't going to get as much.

Clever idea! That sled will look real nice if the hood turns out as good as the nosecone did.

You're one sick puppy...
When I read the thread title, I was seriously doubting it would work. Even so - the nosecone came out looking really nice!!! As weird as it sounds, it's not "that" bad of an idea! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Maybe I'll even send you some Utah snow, as a thank-you gift...
