My 2002 Indy Trail Touring (550 cc) is leaking 50:1 oil from the fitting at the bottom of the oil tank .

What is the best way to remove the tank (do I need to disconnect the muffler) and is there a way to tighten up the fitting at the bottom of the tank so that it doesn't leak or does something need to be replaced. Thx much!

there is a rubber grommet on the bottom of the oil tank which is suppose to seal the outgoing oil line and sometimes they come loose. First, I'd check the grommet to make sure it's not crimped in any way. REMOVAL: the line goes from tank to the oil pump will have to be disconnected and a bolt on top behind the oil level sensor & cap and a screw which holds the tank into the bracket on the left side as you sit on the sled.

let me know if you didn't get this done yet and have questions. I serviced my wife's RMK 700 today and found a puddle of oil on the garage floor. I just ordered the grommet and new filter online. After removal I noticed that it's a pretty cheap setup that needs replaced when it starts leaking. I thought the oil was coming from the chain case.

One thing to note is that you will probably have to remove the coils, and air box to get to a small screw that sets the tank from moving side to side. I can take pictures and post if you are having problems. Be sure to use a turkey baster and get all of the oil out. You can also remove the oil hose down on the pump like Bahnn suggested (you will have to anyway) and let is drain out into a pan. It's messy...

Let me know if you need some pic's. My tank is on the workbench as I type...

tip: (if it helps in your guys case) gas and oil lines can be effectively plugged with a golf tee. i keep two or three in each sled and the toolbox for anytime i have to mess with the lines!!!

I was incorrect. I see that your oil tank is located/joined with your airbox. I feel badly for misleading you.

I believe what you need is item #16 at the bottom of the tank:

SKU: 7052305
GROMMET-OIL SENDER 1 $2.97

Confirm that this picture is what your tank/airbox looks like???

Hey Guys, I have to replace my oil sender grommet as well...I removed the handlebar cover, seat and gas tank and had access to the bottom of the oil tank and grommet very easily. Took me 5 minutes. Just my $.02
