97 Polaris XLT Touring Chain case adjustment

Hello, Does anyone know the correct procedure/tension for adjusting the chain case chain? I realize the adjustment bolt on the side of the chain case does the adjusting but I am not sure how tight to adjust it. This sled has reverse gear in the chain case and as far as I can remember has always had about 1/8 turn of backlash on the jack shaft.
Not sure if that has anything to do with the chain tension or not. Thanks!

Finger tight and then back off 1/4 turn and lock it.
