92 Indy 500 efi - electrical question

My 92 Indy 500 efi is still shutting down after runiing great for 6-8 minutes. The ready light goes out , everything shuts down , but if I hit the key quick enough , it'll keep running. While listening at idle , it revs slightly before it dies. I can get the same result unplugging the small , single wire from the CDI box. Is my CDI box bad ? I tried a different ECM with the same results. Please point me in the right direction , theres just too many wires !!

if it revs up before it dies, its running out of fuel. Other than that have no clue about those EFI's...

When the power goes down I imagine the fuel pump shuts down too. Hitting the key again powers the computer as well as kicks the pump on again. So far the only thing I know for sure is its not the ecm !

Still looking for some help ! Fires great and runs for 5-6 minutes then power shuts off and everything stops. I've tried a different ECM , CDI box , relays , fuseable link and dropping resistor. Still did the same thing ! Where does the power to the ECM come from ? There are still no codes . I'm pullin my hair out !

Check battery voltage.
12.5vdc with the engine off.
13.5 with it running and up to 14vdc after 3000 rpm.

If the battery is not charging/holding charge, the ecu will either shut down or go into "limp mode".

Battery load tested fine. Sitting , its just over 12.2v , running at 3100rpm its at 14.2v. Still shuts down , its driving me nuts. Its almost like its on a timer ! Same run time each time. What am I missing ? Could a ground cause it ? What route does the power take to the ecm ?

Could be a fuel pump or fuel filter.... Could prime up and it takes that long to run out of fuel with the little that gets pushed through. It killing allows it to catch up then restarts.

I'll check the filter , but it doesn't explain the READY light going out before it dies. Thats why I've been leaning towards electrical. After a filter change and test , Can I run direct power to the pump from the battery so it won't shut off ? ( just a temporary test )

Look up member, Mrholmquist.
Send him an email or PM, he has the best info for trouble shooting these models.

When I first posted this problem in December , that was the EFI guru I was hoping to hear from. I'll check fuel filter and pump first before I PM. Thanks .

I don't think he makes it on here much. It's been a long time since I've seen him post anything. You might have better luck emailing him if he doesn't have it set up so it sends him an email when he gets a PM from this forum. If you can get a hold of him I'm sure he can help you figure some stuff out.

Thanks, I'm really frustrated ! I have a full wiring harness that was supposed to have been from a 92 , but it has a toggle switch near the relays ? My next plan is to replace each section of harness and test.
