1994 xcr chain case

Hey guys, Just a quick question here. Ive got the chaincase on my 1994 Polaris 440 XCR SP apart and its the first time Ive torn into one. I did a search on the site of previous posts looking for how tight my chain needs to be when I put it back together, and how to do it.
I read something about turning the track untill slack was taken out of the back side of the chain and turning the tensioner until its finger tight, then back off a touch. Is this correct? I have it apart because when fogging the sled last spring I noticed the tensioner bolt rattling around because the jam nut had backed off. Saw metal shavings on the dipstick and was worried, but I took the cover off and cleaned everything off and it looks good to go, just want to know where and how to set the chain tension. Hoping to do this when I head back to my parents house in WI where the sled is this weekend. Also is there a specific way to fill it back up? Or just a funnel down the dipstick hole and fill er up to the full line? Thanks in advance, the knowledge around here is insane! I may not comment much on here but Im here most every day, I have a computer at my CNC mill here at work and can poke around on it during downtime or while the machine is running. Thanks again and I wish everyone a great season this year, its coming up!

thought you might like some pics of it too. Best part was I got it for free! Real long story short I sold a co worker my mothers car and I got him a very good price so he agreed to throw in the sled. My mother told me to start asking people for 2100 for her 99' boneville, I convinced her to start way higher at 3500, and sold the car for 2700 and I got a sled out of it worked out great for both. was kind of a basket case, didnt run and seat was TRASHED so I got a seat for it, ran new fuel lines and cleaned carbs went through it pretty good, got it running and put about 400 miles on it last winter. Thats my first year of snowmobiling ever! cant see myself getting out of it anytime soon

You want to apply a slight reverse tension and take the slack out of the chain which can be done by rotating the drive clutch counterclockwise and locking the brake. Free play on the long part of the chain should be between 1/4" to 3/8". You refill the case with Oil through the dipstick hole to the safe line on the stick.

I just changed my chaincase oil and found that using a large syringe with a hose attached really helped. U can read how much lube you are putting in also, and it makes it really easy to get the exact amount.
