2000 Indy 500

Hi everyone, I would enjoy being able to join your forums on a regular basis! Now this all depends if I pick up a sled I'm going to look at this Sunday.
I already saw it once & put $200 down so the guy would hold it.... Now this is where I need all your help!

Overall, the sled looks great! No scuffs, cracks, sliders are good, carbides are great, track is in good condition! Low miles (2500)... what about the internals though???

- I'm bringing a gauge to test compression, I read it should be around 120psi?? I don't know how complete the test properly though? >> help!
- Any tips on checking other parts of sled?? I heard once you run it for 10 min then turn it off, pull the plugs, & listen for a hissing sound.. if there hissing this means your head gasket could have a break in it... I don't know :P

So please, any input would be great & hope to see you around the forums soon!

Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood Klootzack!

i believe you install the compression tester and then pull the cord 3 times...

My 99 indy 500 has 4333 miles and tested 132psi in ea cyclinder

Are you supposed to pull the plug out of the other cyclinder while you are testing or do you leave it in? Do you know if the engine should be cold or run it for a bit first?

Both plugs out and throttle wide open.
Warm or cold, there should only be a few psi difference in the reading.

Yes, loosen the track and check for wobble or tight rotation of any of the idlers on the skid (suspension). Replace any of the bearings that do not turn smooth or wobble.

Check chain case for fluid level, or signs of a leak. wiggle skies, handle bar check for too much play. Put the rear up on or test ride if possible to check clutch engagment and belt
