Need help getting ready for the season :)

Hello everyone,
So i bought my girlfriend (whom has never snowmobiled before) a 86 indy 600 SE- the sled ran great last year but needs some maintenace, some hoses r dry rott and cracked and im wondinring if i should use OE hoses from parts store or am i ok with universal hosing?
- next, the rear susp is a bit stiff and the springs look really rusty, being a 86 i would like to replace them and see if it softens the ride, it looks easy but looks can be deceiving and suggestions?- cant find a manual for a sled this old
-next the airbox has a foam cushion at the top that is falling apart and pieces of it are everywhere in the box- should i get a new air box or remove and clean it and make a filter-- could this change my airflow and cause a problem? and i should probably clean my carbs because its kinda hard to start?
Any help would be greatly appricaited thanks

Greasing the suspension should make it work easier. There are 4 or 5 fittings to grease.

The foam is replaceable, it is to keep snow from being sucked into the engine.

You can make the hoses that you need from standard automotive hose available on a spool. Some with bends in them are more difficult to do, but can be rerouted to fit better.

See the link to cleaning Mikuni round slide carbs in the How To thread in the tech section.

When you clean the carbs clean the box as well its not hard to do and as long as its out i would. also it probably has pices of the foam in the air box and you don't want that being sucked in through the carbs. o and change the plugs, what ever is in it use those same kind. Once all that stuff is done it never hurts to run seafoam through it. good luck

there is no real filter... just take the airbox out and there are like 7 or 8 clips that come off and it splits into 2 halves and just dump it out. the foam isnt exactly neccesary but i wouldnt touch powder without it. also the springs can be adjusted via a tab at the ends of them... i would also agree with using generic automobile hoses
