2003 polaris RMK 600

hey,
im new to the forum and i just bought an 03 rmk 600. the sled is stock except for the track. it was originally a 2 inch but was shaved down to a 1.5.
i bought this sled on halloween and never got to use it or never drove one like it before. im curious of how this thing runs. im only 160 pounds, so if i stand further back and pin it will she lift the skis. im wondering mostly about the torque, top speed, acceleration and handleing.

it would be great if you guys could help me out
thanks

Welcome aboard! She'll do wheelies no problem. It's a 2 cylinder so it won't tear your arms off on the take-off, but it will definitely keep up with the triples. You can expect over 100 out of it easy.

Welcome to the forum!

The only way my RMK 600 will get to 100 mph is if it falls off a cliff

Gearing is way off for high speed, the RMK is designed to keep the track turning while climbing so as not to get stuck on the hill. I had a 2005 RMK 600, it would see 80 pretty easy, but much more than that and it ran out of steam pretty quickly. You may be a bit faster, my riding is 5000-8000 feet.

I do agree with Twins, though.. it will do wheelies no problem. With the lower gears and a 144" x 2" track to hook up, the skis come up pretty easy. If it were an XC instead of an RMK, 100 mph would definitely be do-able in the right snow.

so im guessing with the lower gearing and the fact that my track is trimmed to a 1.5 she will accelerate pretty well. i know its no race sled i just wanna be able to give some other 600's a good run how are these sleds for boondocking, any good? also would you recommend setting the front strap to the low setting or standard seeing as i will be doing a bit of trail riding with the wife lol?
thanks for the info so far, you guys are great

THey are light, nimble, easy to toss around, climb pretty well, I liked mine just fine. It is way lighter than an 800 in the Edge chassis, so for boondocking, it's very capable. At about 114 hp, it will leave you wanting if you climb the steep stuff, or in really deep powder..

Im not meaning to be a pain in the ass or anything guys i just want all the feedback i can get i was wondering if there are any lil mods to do to this sled, as for jetting it is already a lil lower than stock. the guy i got it from was my local sled dealer mechanic and he said with the changes he was getting around 16 mpg, is this correct and will i affect this very much with power riding? thanks

If you want to spend some bucks, an SLP twin pipe/can, SLP intake, put some Flow-rites in the dash, make the clutching changes that SLP suggests and hang on! 16 is a little generous if you like to play in the powder or are aggressive... I got 12 with mine pretty consistently. If you rode groomed trails and stayed in the speed limit, you may get 16...

You may be very satisfied with the sled as is, though... mine was stock and it was pretty surprising and VERY fun to play on
