89 indy 500 intake gasket?

I know it doesn't use one but for some reason my intake boots aren't mating up with the engine, its leaving gaps. So am I doing something wrong or should I go buy some gasket material and make some?

You probably have aftermarket intake boots- they are junk and deform exactly as you described when installed. The factory boots DO NOT deform when tightened up. Look on eBay for good used ones- they have an "O" ring on the back, no gasket needed. A coating of Threebond 1194 always helps when installing the boots.

Those intake flanges seem to rust from the inside and deform over time.(from my experiance anyways). You need a good seal or the engine will self destruct. As far as a gasket, there aren't any the rubber makes the seal.DO NOT use silicone, for gas eats that stuff.
Replace the intake boots with good ones.
