engine noise

got an 03 edge 800 with what sounds like(your going to laugh) a lifter noise like a truck, thought it may be the primary but it seems ok can actually hear the noise the loudest at the ves valves, just rebuild the engine 85 miles ago - kinda scared something is wrong now. think this is normal or does something like a worn or broken spring in the bellow area make this noise thanks for any ideas.

Check it, the valve is probably rattling in the groove.

Like RJ said. You can disassemble the valve really easily to check the spring/bellows. If the bellows has a hole in it, you may hear exhaust passing through the activation hole in the valve body. If you are careful removing the valve assembly, you can often re-use the gasket.

Retighten the bolts carefully, the torque spec is 4-5 ft. lbs. The threads are super easy to strip...

can you run the engine with the valves or belows removed to soo if the noise is gone? if the nuts are loose it can cause this noise, i know i put lock tight on the threads when i assembled them can somethins else in there be worn. i will tear her down and take a look.

I wouldn't run without the bellows and valve in place. That will cause a large amount of exhaust to exit where it's not supposed to.. the least it will do is splatter unburned oil all over your hood... plus, if you are listening for an abnormal noise, the sound of the exhaust coming out the VES hole will mask any other sounds you may want to hear...
