Indy 500 with 38mm carbs

would 38mm carbs work on a 500 indy liquid? I believe the 500's had 34mm's? With a 300 main jet. I have a set of 38's on my XLT off of a XCR and am in the process of selling the XLT but taking parts off that I may want later on. I have the stock 34's for the xlt but am not sure if I should keep them for the 500 or keep the 38's to try them on the 500. Maybe they wont work on the 500 at all? The 38's have UNI filters on them also and they wont fit the
34mm's. Im stripping every part off the XLT worth anything. The 500 only has 2600 miles and is in a lot better shape. I do like the tripple though..its just not very reliable any more

All "Indy 500" liquids came with 38mm carbs stock- I just checked the factory manual. The "Indy Wide Trak" has the same 500 liquid engine as the "Indy 500" BUT uses 34mm carbs. Properly jetted, either size will work fine on a 500 Liquid Polaris twin.

ok cool! I'll be keeping the 38's for parts and more importantly the UNI filters! I really hate the air box affair. Makes it a pain in the butt to work on carbs....and looks cooler. lol. As long as your not constantly riding in powder I can't see a real problem with running the UNI's. I mean there is no real filter in the air box....Any downsides to the UNI filters?

Yeah, watch that you are not running too lean in the mid-range or top end.
The airbox is designed to help to get fuel into the engine.

ok I'll keep an eye on that. I ran them last winter on the 600 XLT without any problems. Some guys don't like the UNI's because they think they'll let snow and water in...I didnt have any problems with them so far though.
