How to make an indy lite 340 faster ?

Hello my father gave me his snowmobile its a 1993 indy lite 340 with a 121 inch track. The body is very clean almost like a new one but the engine start be tired up and I feel to have a faster snowmobile I though about an engine swap like a 580 or a 500 liquid engine. I know the radiator will be hard to fit. Do you thing the body and the chaincase of my snowmobile will handle this power ?

Hell you could probably trade it to someone with a fast sled and a bigger engine.

Yup I tough about this option but I would like to have a real sleeper sled Imagine an indy lite with a 100 + hp engine. A real hot rod !! Does somebody could tell me the difference between an xlt or an rxl chassis and a lite chassis and chaincase. Do you think a 580 or 650 3 cyl engine will fit into my lite chassis in term of place under the hood ?

A 440 0r 500 fan could be massaged in there.
To get anything bigger, you would have to modify the frame to accept the heat exchangers for a liquid cooled engine.

Except the heat exchangers what is the major difference ? Theres no problem for the exchanger on the step plates but the other near the sprocket and under the seat will be tought. I know there was some mods but what about the engine support, place under the hood, clutch and belt ? I will need to make a custom exhaust too

Much easier to put another fan cooled engine in there, only engine mount and exhaust placement modifications needed.
If you were to put a 488 fan into that light of a frame, it would just plain haul A$$.
Also, a fan cooled engine will not require that you also beef up the drive train to handle the extra torque that a liquid cooled engine has.

488 fan= about 50hp
488 LC = about 65hp.

I know its simple to bolt a fan cooled engine but I hate fan cooled engine when the weather is hot the performance are not very good compaired when the weather is cold. But do you think a 500 fan will make my sled faster then an indy 650 ? If its slower forget it I want a rocket sled for drag race. The only porpose for my my sled will be drag race and cruising in my field

Well, the power to weight ratio and a little gearing adjustment and some clutch tuning can make a 440 faster in 500' than an 800.
So, is the extra work involved to put a LC into a fan frame worth it to you?

I would like to install a 3 cyl because I love the sound of those engine and I want a liquid colled because it provide a more constent power. But if its possible to trade a lite 340 for a indy 650 or a storm 800 why not a trade. But if nobody want to trade his powerful sled for your slow one the work for a swap engine worth.

don't quit your day job

The chaincase out of many polaris wedges were the same basic moc up but the 1993 xlt case and up were diffent, the 1992 xlt case mathes the indy light. There is a website out there polaris uses to look up and match genaric parts. its difficult to find but it is open to the public.
In a google search engine type ...polaris parts/browse... and you will be in.

As said the 440 or the 488 fan would be the golden motor for you, I would attempt the 488 liquid before the 650 motor due to major tuning and structural support, and where would the tripple pipes fit into that sleeper!

Sell it and buy a faster sled... it's about your only option!

yea a 340 indy lite didn't have speed in mind or was open to motor swaps including tripples or any other 90+ hp motor without whoever was doing it to have a lot of money and time on there hands. Drive the thing or sell it and get a 600...problem solved.
