Carb question

I have a Classic 700.This has a liquid cooled motor.I always had fan cooled and I was wondering why coolant lines go to the carbs? What does coolant have to do with carbs?

oh cool! I just learned something new today! When did they start doing this? Does a 2001 500 XC SP have this also? I'd like to check it out on my buddies if it does. Never heard of it before. Cool!
