Clutch it, my brother in law had a 94 xlt with studded track. it was a dog, then we put a stiffer spring in it, would pull the skis off the ground for sixty feet. not to mention run a hundred in the snap of a fingure. it will cost you though replacing those belts more often.

You would have to pull them apart and check it out, theres rollers and weights that could have wear on them in the primary or the spring is weak etc etc.. There is a good post on here about cleaning and inspecting both of those clutches. Its a good idea to check and clean, however yes it will cause you problems if you make that thing katwalk. Cost you money and give you somthing too work on constantly

All you need to do is....
Dalton Clutch kit with spring that engages at 6000 rpm
SLP pipes and can
240 Woody 1 1/4 studs
Weisco pistons and bore it .40 over
Port and polish it and plain the head .20
Sink about $4000 into it
In other words..Its a 440 XCR..Its not going to be super crazy. Sure there are things you can do to it...In some cases it might make you slower. A 600 XC is crazy fast but won't stand on end. Before you sink a bunch of money into it....ask your self if you like it that much that you wouldnt like to have a 600...or a 680 ultra SPX. I wouldnt worry about cat walking...Worry about off the line and top end. A clutch kit will make a diff but prob wont stand it on end.....My 600 XLT with .30 over pistons and a spring that lets it rev to 8500 full throttle wont stand on end by any means....Still works great though

If all you are interested in is pulling the skis off the snow, cut the limiting strap on the suspension. Will make it ride like crap, but the skis will come up. I had a Mach 1 that some one had done that to, looked impressive, but what a pile of junk.

if i were u, i would still look into a wedge style polaris, abundance of parts, highly modable. the phazer is not a bad choice though. except the ones older than 99'
