94 RXL Stalls

I have two issues and maybe they are related. We just purchased this sled in December with 1,000 miles on it and have put about 500 miles on it since. When it’s cold it starts great on the second pull every time (even at 20 below) and runs great when it does run.

The first issue ever since we brought it home – starts great cold and runs great but after riding for a while getting it fully warmed up if I stop for more than 15-20 minutes or so, it will start but will only idle at a very low RPM, maybe 300 – 500. If I try to rev it up it will stall, like its not getting gas. I can restart it and it will only idle with very low RPM. I have to very, very slowly increase the throttle until I can eventually get it up to 2000 RPM then it will be fine again. This maybe takes up to a minute to do. If I stop and start it back up within 5 to 10 min or so it will start fine, it only acts up after it has sat for a while.

The second issue just started more recently and seems to be getting more frequent. Can be riding along going great then for no reason you give it throttle and it stalls like not getting gas and wont restart. Turn key off then on, wait for fuel pump to prime, try to start and it floods. The previous owner installed a switch to disable the fuel pump, so I turn off the pump, hold the throttle half way open, start it up, wait until it starts to run lean then turn the pump back on and it will run perfectly again, maybe for the rest of the day.

I haven’t been able to check for codes yet, I will try the next time. Hopping to get some ideas where to start looking before then so can we get one last weekend in of trail riding before the season ends.

Thanks in advance.

The switch to the fuel pump is redundant . If you hold the throttle open while starting the computer is programmed to stop injecting fuel to clear a flooded engine. Once you release the throttle the fuel is once again injected as normal.

The second problem with the poor restarting after 20 minutes may require the use of a Select Monitor to check sensor input values and perhaps adjust the mixture screw on the side of the ECU.

The third condition sounds like a defect in the TPS sensor , perhaps a dead spot, here again a Select Monitor would be helpful. Look into downloading Rensu's Select Monitor software which is free.
