I Need electrical help...(headlight and voltage regulator) - Snowmobile Forum: Your #1 Snowmobile Forum

My headlight and gauge lights arent working the yellow wire going to them has no voltage. so i traced the wires back and I remeber someone here talking about a voltage regulator box,,,so i tested the box in this pic and there was power going into it but none comeing out.
is this normal? Is this the voltage regulator? and how else can i test it?
also is this box supposed to be bolted to the metal control panel by the switches i assume not if the power runs thru where it mounts?

This Is A Kimpex Voltage Regulator.does It Have Electric Start? I've Had Some Issues With Aftermarket Regulators Not Working Properly On Some Sleds.oem Is Best In This Situation.

yes it did have elec. start but its all been removed so it doesnt work now. Is this box only for the elec start? I just need to fix my headlight not working. My tail lights work tho.
a: Am I testing this correct?
b: I tryed looking for sleds.oem and nothing?

ok ive been reading up on the regulator an how it works....sence i cant test it, im going to install it again re-check the ground to do more tests??? normaly when these things go usally they blow out the bulbs.
My problems are:
I still have rear lights
no brake light (might be unrelated,,ill check the switch later)
no headlight
one acc light is lit up
no others on the dash light up
engine runs fine

I tryed to check the yellow wire going to the headlights and they dont have power at them but theres power at the regulator???

My headlight bulb looks like this

what prong is what? i just disconnected them and forgot what wire goes to what prong. Can someone name what prongs are ground and high and low positives?
once i know what prongs are what i can check to see if the bulb is blown,,plus hook it/ or a new one back up obviously.

That's not the regulator.A regulator will have 2 wires IN (30-40VAC from the motor) and wires OUT (12VDC) to run your stuff. DO the guage lights, etc work?

I already stated i have no other guage lights working! It looks like the regulator to me! If thats not a regulator both of these sites are wrong then?

Check The Connector Where The Cab Plugs Into The Harness.there May Be A Broken Wire Where The Wire Flexes When You Open The Cab. I'm Willing To Put Money On That's What It Is.

ok i found the issue... it was a few broken wires and burnt ends. Last guy even used duct tape??? no wonder im having isseus.
Ok so i figured out my regulators busted as im getting more the 15volts when i rev it up (thats all my meter goes to),,,and now theres no tail lights at all. . So i picked up a new regulator. and im going to install some new bulbs and tryer out.

the picture is a polaris regulator. If your blowing bulbs a bad regulator is the most likely cause. I had the 600 Classic with the electrical problems in the spring. First regulator was an oem and was faulty. I took sled to dealer and he found out it was bad and replaced it. I had spent hours trying to find problem. No more blown bulbs but it made me wonder how they would send out a bad regulator in the first place.
