Clutch Kits

1998 700xc

I am looking at a couple of different options for clutch kits for my sled, there is a trail kit and a performace kit available. can anyone enlighten me as to which would be a better way to go or what would the difference be.

PS...
What is a good starting point when setting the idle speed on the carbs?

The performance kit has a higher engagement RPM and a more aggressive shiftout. If you do a lot of trail riding, it gets very old in a hurry, you really have to rev the engine to get the sled moving, and when it goes, it GOES. A trail kit will offer better acceleration and backshifting over stock, but won't be quite as aggressive as the performance kit will be.

My 700 idled pretty good at 1300, but I think the stock was 1500 (I can't find that in my owner's manual). Set it for best idle about 1300 and if it seems to hesitate, increase the idle to see if the hesitation goes away.

Are you looking at the epi cluth kits? I have the epi performance kit andit is awesome. It takes offlike a rocket. BC Dan is right though If your doing touring i would stay away from the performance one. Mine is for playing around.

+1 on the EPI kit. I have their trail version on my 650, it works great.

yes it is the EPI kits. Sounds like if this is going to be a play toy then i should put the performance kit on.

I am thinking of going to a 4 stroke this year and keeping the 700 to play with once in a while.

Anyhow thanks for the input..
