The performance kit has a higher engagement RPM and a more aggressive shiftout. If you do a lot of trail riding, it gets very old in a hurry, you really have to rev the engine to get the sled moving, and when it goes, it GOES. A trail kit will offer better acceleration and backshifting over stock, but won't be quite as aggressive as the performance kit will be.
My 700 idled pretty good at 1300, but I think the stock was 1500 (I can't find that in my owner's manual). Set it for best idle about 1300 and if it seems to hesitate, increase the idle to see if the hesitation goes away.
