1996 polaris indy xl6 600

i just picked up a polaris snowmobile. is there a way to tell what year it is from the vin number on the tunnel?

1996 polaris indy xlt 600 liquid cooled


also, i broke the pull rope. where can i get one? the little plastic ring is kind of torn up where the rope comes out by the hood. where can i find a parts microfiche. i know yamaha has one here. America's Most Diverse - Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, Home

Hi not sure about the vin, but if you call a dealer with it they'd probably be able to tell you the year. Heres the polaris parts site for you.

no, i don't know the year for sure. i was told when i bought it that it was a 1996 but want to confirm that.

Then, ya, i'd give the vin to a dealer. Try ebay for the parts, you could prob get an entire recoil unit pretty cheap. Much easier then winding a new cord.

The manufacturing date should be stamped on the right side of the tunnel. It may be a sticker with the vin#, and the manufacturing date below it. Should beable to tell by the last 6 digits of your vin.

Example: ******ASSY007579

The first 2 numbers after the ASSY should give you the year of the sled.

The manufacturing date will state that it was manufactired the previous year.
Example: The sled is a 2000. The manufacturing date will be June/JUly 1999.
