Ok so first post here bit if used to this forum as a tool for a long time.
I just finished swapping in a 133.5" xtra-10 skid on my '93 Indy 500 SKS with very little problems. So now I'm working on swapping in the front. Keep in mind the sks has a 36.5" ski stance that I'd like to keep. So I have A full donor with non crc. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before. I know the radius rods will have to be shortened does anyone have an actual measurement. Also any other tips to make this go smoothly are appreciated.
The 133.5 isn't that a different pitch than the 2.52?
Couldn't you use the stock radius arms and just use the longer shocks?
You would have to rework the camber?
The sks models came with the 133.5" track and a narrower skis stance. Still a 2.52 pitch just more pitches. And with swapping in the IFS extra ten suspension that's almost 3" longer then the stock shocks. My stock radius rods are too short. But I have a donor a 1997 Indy trail with non crc xtra 10 but the radius rods are too long. So im thinking that possibly radius rods off a standard wedge chassis might do the trick does anyone know how long they are.
Got 'er figured out. as far as ad radius rods had to cut out almost 2" and weld em back up. Now my problem is steering arms. The new shocks added like 4"-5" of height up front. And it's too much just to bend the arms. I'm thinking of fabing up a riser that will come off the clamp on the spindle up 3" and bolt the steering rod on to that. I did a mock up with a 4" 3/8" bolt and it seems like it would work as long as it was rigid enough. Any thoughts?
Get the spindles from the xtra 10 machine. They will add almost 1 inch to front without needing to change shocks. You didn't say what version of the Indy Trail is the donor sled. If its the short track them it has the wide front end. When I tore apart a 97 XLT SKS (133.5) what I noticed was that the window for the steering arms was cut 1/2-3/4" deeper into the bulkhead. Polaris then beefed up the area at the bottom of the opening to strengthen the bulkhead. I put that extra 10 rear suspension into a 91 Indy 500 with the different spindles and everything has been good. Also did the same to 94 Indy Super Sport but left wide front end the xtra 10 spindles.
