i replaced all my 3/8th heims on my steering but know the radius rods ones underneath the belly-pan are crappy too so i may as well order them. i don't feel like tearing them down now but do know there are 2 sizes. 7/16 & 1/2. one would have to assume they are both right hand thread as the other end is a bushed connection. can anyone confirm this? what about heim bore size? are they different also?
Pete72, I believe the top smaller eye are left hand thread, be careful. You may need LOTS of heat from a torch to remove them.... Other wise they'll most likely snap off. Mine did on my 95 xlt project. Those eyes aren't cheap either... 18.99 for the top and over 20 for the bottom. On eBay. You'll pay around $100 for all 4 thru polaris
You might be better off finding new replacement radius rods and new end bushings. go with the newer 94/95 style the ends that bolt to the trailing arm are bigger and you get a better bushing setup. Plastic insert with a steel bushing. Otherwise the older style that's on our 400s is steel on steel and have a tendency to sieze together, if you stay old style use marine grade grease. Its thicker, coats better, yes it'll better a bit stiffer in the cold but less chance of wash out. Meaning it stays in place. I can't remember what I had if it was omc or quicksilver. All I remember it was a blue, sticky grease.
my radius rods have new bushing. steel with plastic so im all set on that end. no way would i pay $20 for new ends. you can buy new for $7 shipped on ebay all day everyday. same place o got all my 3/8 ends right & left thread for the steering. i may have to tear it apart if i can't find the info. getting the ends out is easy!
that is correct. may want to order these too.3 8" Steel Cone Spacer Heims Heim Joint Rod End Ends Joints | eBay these heims are a little diffrent then polaris. i just used pipe i had to make my own. didn't know the seller carried these. polaris heims are a little longer on one side.
really can't get any grease in these to be honest. i consider them a wearable part like brake pads . the radius rod ends underneath especially. too hard to get in there after installed to get any kind of lube. the smaller 3/8 can be hit a few times a year with oil. i too am happy with the quality for the prices.
yippee!!!!! new heims are all in. steering and suspension are like new again plus all realigned camber/toe/out. what a bear getting them out tho. glad i replaced as one of the 1/2 heims was bent. must have taken a good shot to do that. hopefully i will keep this going again for a very long time to come.
Excellent. I know what you mean by being a pain to get out. Even with heat from a MAP gas torch I snapped one off.
I have another 1/2 radius arm coming
