KX-80 Cylinder Coating???????

Hi all, and help.

I managed to pick up a 88' KX-80 for $50 for my daughter with a burnt piston. All the engine parts were in a box but seemed to be there.

My question is, I planned to go 10 over on the bore and pick up a new piston etc. The only place around that does engine work is telling me the cylinder is coated- like nicasil?-
and needs re-coated or re-sleeved.

Does anyone know if this is the truth!!!!!!

Besides even with Chrome Oxide coating why can't you just bore this stuff out anyway. Seems the base sleeve material would be the same as if you re-sleeved?.

Thanks.

They are telling the truth. if you dont have nicasil coting on the cylinder you wil size up the motor right away. when you resleave the motor it will have a fresh coat of nic on it. send it of.

Yeah, if it's nicasil now, it has to be that when you rebuild it. The cylinders are totally different material than a regular cast cylinder.
