stumper for SEG
What voltage system is in a Allis Chalmers D14 tractor? 12volt, or 6 volt. I don't know what year this tractor is. I'm guessing '50's.
I figured that I would post this here since I am talking about an off road vehicle...hehe

Yah I'm thinkin it alittle older than that. I was figuring around 55 maybe. We went and looked at a 55 D15, and the d14 doesn't look much different as far as the year is concerned

Like funk said, most things older than 58 or so were 6 volt, although my friend has a 79 Honda motorcycle that is a 6V system...

Check out the battery.....3 caps/cells = 6 volt; 6 caps/cells = 12 volt.............or use a VOM meter to test.

Wow ptrapper, Haven't seen you around in awhile. Where you been?
I found a web forum for old tractors and posted there. I got a reply. This paticular tracto was produced between '57-'60. It does come with 6 volt system, but It may have been converted to 12. I will have to look at it when it gets here. We're having a rim repaired (Chloride leakage). Hopefully it will be done tonight. Thanks guys.

Well today my dad and I went to pick up the tractor. We had to rent a trailer to hall it. The guy at the rental place hooked it up and told us how it should be loaded on the trailer. So we loaded the tractor on the trailer just like the guy told us to right. We started down the road and was goin about 20mph and I happened to look back and at that instant the trailer came unhooked. I told my dad to stop real easy, but he didn't. The trailer slammed right into the tailgate of the truck. Screwed the tailgate pretty good. I don't know who was more pi$$ed, my dad or me. The traiiler tongue was tipped up so we couldn't just hook it back up. We had to pull the truck around to jump start the tractor to lower the bucket to put the tongue down far enough to hook it back up ( the tractor was facing the back of the trailer). There was a piece of angle iron going across the trailer just infront of the axle (They used it to hall skidsteers). They said that it wouldn't be a problem. Odviously they don't know WTF they are talkin aboutI backed the tractor over the piece of steel and it was sitting alittle better than b4. Dad and I were freakin out the whole way home after that. I think the top speed was about 30mph after that. Those a-hole are really gonna here about it. There gonna get both barrels. My dad then me. Sorry for the online book.

Sounds like you broke the first rule of Trailer Towing 101. Must always have positive tongue weight...........sorry to hear about your misfortune, tho!!

You know you've got a trailer loaded right when you could tow it without the latch cinched down (so much weight on the tongue instead of the back). I'm not saying tow stuff without the latch down, but you know what I mean..,..

That's what we get for listening to those fellas. We though they new what they were talkin about because they hall heavy equipment everyday. I mean hell, the truck was saggin when the tractor was sitting on the trailer ,though the tractor was placed to the rear of the trailer. Oh well, who cares. Atleast noone got hurt. That's the main thing.
We stopped by the rental place today and told them what had happened. One of the employees was starting to tell us," Well, to bad." Then the owner walked into the room and asked what was goin on. We told him and immediately, he said to go order a new tailgate and sen him the bill and old tailgate. he also had his yardman go pull the hitch off of that trailer to be rebiult. He said that he would rather buy a tailgate than pay for a life. I'm a happy customer. I will rent from there again

It was Taylor rental in Petoskey. I've rented alot of stuff from them b4. They were always cool to me. I wasn't sure about this though after reading the fine print on the rental agreement. The thing that i liked is the fact that he didn't hesitate to pay for the damage. That is why I will keep goin back. I know that Hydes Equipment rental (also in Petoskey) wouldn't have done that.

we usta have that same problem with a bumper hitch trailor, but we put some really heavy duty bottoming bumpers on the back springs and that evened it right out, and that arco is a pretty heavy tractor to.
now we have a goose neck and its works asome, you never have to worry about load placement, also it fallows stiaght and doesnt sway.

Since the snow has melted, I only check the site every week or two. Things will pick up once the first flake hits the ground.
