Which dirtbike?????

Im looking to buy a decent dirtbike and just wanted to see if you guys have any suggestions on which one to go for. Im not looking for anything brand new i just want a good reliable bike to rip down the powerlines by my house. Also i dont want one that i can run faster then, id like something that can actually go pretty fast.

Id stick to a Honda, Yamaha or KTM. Suzukis and Kawasakis have a reputation for being unreliable.
Also, I would stay away from a 4-stroke (unless its a Honda XR). Modern 4-stroke dirtbike engines are complex, high-maintenance, short-life and VERY expensive to maintain.
I used to have an '06 Yamaha YZ 250F and I ended up selling it because of the maintenance costs. Go with a 2-stroke. Lighter, simpler and much less expensive to maintain.

No problem. Im just trying to save you from making a $5,000 mistake. 4-stroke MX bikes are insanely fast (even 250Fs), but unless you are a sponsored racer or have really deep pockets, you cant afford the maintenance costs.
I know a lot of people who race in my local area who used to ride 4-strokes, but have switched back to a 2-stroke because the 4-stroke was just too expensive to own.

The only thing I know about Kawis is that they are unreliable. They have a reputation for the motors blowing up frequently.

i would suggest a crf 250X they are a great trail bike and very reliable like honda always is. i dont know about the post above about KTMs being reliable though... they are fast... but in my experience the least reliable of the bikes out there, plus when something breaks, parts are usually not available for a month or two instead of right at the counter at your dealership. i have two crf 230s in my garage right now, an 03 and an 07 they are both great ikes, lots of torque, they take a bit to get going but they will run right with my 125 i used to have in a straight line. if you are going to be riding trails i would stay away from a 2 stroke... i owned one for four years and whenever riding trails it was just no fun... too much clutching becase they do not have any low end power, they are meant to be wound right out. thats the reason i sold my bike... it was too boring to ride the trails around here so i sold it and bought a 4 wheeler because i cant downgrade but needed a change. in my opinion i think either a crf 230 or crf 250X is the best choice for you in your situation.

i dont know about kawi's motors blowing up either... every bike blows up if you dont maintain it, if you maintain your bike properly and take care of it you will never have a problem. just make sure you redo the top end every once in a while.
